In seconds, your shop fills with dense white fog. The intruder can't see their hand in front of their face — let alone your merchandise. They have one choice: leave immediately. This is fog cannon security, and it's the only system that actively stops robbery while it's happening, rather than simply recording it for later.
Traditional security systems have a fundamental problem: they react after the crime occurs. Alarms alert you to a break-in. CCTV records it. But by the time police or security guards arrive — typically 10–15 minutes later — the criminal is gone, along with your stock.
Fog cannons flip this equation. Within seconds of activation, the system fills your premises with dense, impenetrable fog. Visibility drops to less than 30 centimetres. The intruder can't see what they came to steal, can't navigate your shop, and faces an immediate choice: stay blind in an unfamiliar space, or flee.
This is proactive security — stopping crime in progress rather than documenting it for insurance claims. The fog creates a physical barrier between criminals and your merchandise, your staff, and your livelihood.
A fog cannon is a specialised security device that rapidly generates dense, white fog when triggered. The fog is created by heating a glycol-based fluid until it vaporises, then releasing it into the protected space.
The fog cannon receives a signal from your alarm panel, panic button, or monitoring centre
Within 2–3 seconds, the fog cannon begins ejecting fog at high volume
The protected area fills with dense fog, reducing visibility to near zero
The fog remains for up to 60 minutes without ventilation, ensuring continued protection
The fog is completely safe for humans, animals, electronics, and merchandise
Properly ventilated within one hour, the fog leaves no trace
Similar composition to theatrical fog, it poses no respiratory risk
Independently certified to EN 50131-8 international security standards
The fog is dry, white, and odourless. It won't damage stock, trigger fire suppression systems, or create slip hazards. After ventilation, there's nothing to clean up.
Fog cannons exploit a fundamental truth about criminal psychology: thieves rely on speed and visibility to operate. Remove their ability to see, and the crime becomes impossible.
Immediate disorientation — The sudden, explosive discharge of fog creates panic and confusion. Even determined criminals instinctively retreat when they can't see their surroundings or escape route.
Zero opportunity — With visibility under 30cm, criminals cannot locate merchandise, navigate displays, or find cash registers. The items they came to steal are now invisible.
Staff protection — For robberies during business hours, the fog creates a barrier between staff and offenders. Employees can retreat to safety while the fog disorients the attacker.
Evidence preserved — Unlike physical confrontation, fog cannons protect your assets without risk of injury to anyone. CCTV continues recording, capturing the intruder's initial entry before fog deployment.

Fog cannons integrate seamlessly with your existing security infrastructure:
Alarm system integration — Connect to any alarm panel via simple relay contact. The fog cannon triggers when your alarm activates, providing immediate response to detected intrusion.
Panic button activation — Staff can manually trigger the fog cannon during a robbery using a concealed panic button. This is the recommended configuration for dairies and retail stores open to the public.
Monitoring centre control — Connected to CCTV, your monitoring centre can verify an intrusion and remotely activate the fog cannon while dispatching police.
Standalone operation — Fog cannons can operate independently with their own motion sensors for after-hours protection of unmanned premises.
PROTECT IntelliCloud™ — Free cloud monitoring service provides real-time status reporting, maintenance alerts, and remote management of your fog cannon.
Yes. PROTECT security fog is completely harmless to humans, animals, electronics, and merchandise. The glycol-based fog is similar to theatrical smoke used at concerts and events. It's been tested and certified by independent laboratories including the Danish Technological Institute.
No. The fog is dry and leaves no residue when ventilated within one hour of activation. Electronics, clothing, food products, and sensitive equipment are all unaffected.
Without ventilation, the fog remains dense for up to 60 minutes. We recommend ventilating within one hour to avoid any condensation. Opening doors and windows or running air conditioning quickly clears the space.
In theory, yes — but in practice, they don't. The fog creates immediate disorientation and panic. Criminals don't know how long the fog will last, whether police are on their way, or what other security measures may activate. They leave.
PROTECT fog cannons are designed not to trigger smoke detectors. The particle size and composition differs from actual smoke. However, we recommend informing your local fire service of the installation.
Pricing depends on the model and installation requirements. The PROTECT 600i typically costs around $4,000 installed. Some businesses may qualify for NZ Police subsidies — we can advise on eligibility.
Fog fluid has a 2-year lifespan once installed (5 years unopened). Each container provides multiple activations. Annual servicing ensures your system is always ready.
Not sure if fog cannon security is right for your business? We'll assess your premises, evaluate your risk profile, and recommend the most effective solution — whether that's a fog cannon alone or integrated with CCTV, alarms, and access control.
